Denver Drought – What it means for your garden

Denver Water has declared a stage 2 drought which means watering of lawns is limited to two days per week on a set schedule. Bad news for your Kentucky bluegrass, good news for your vegetable garden! You may still water your Front Yard Farm any day with the drip irrigation that we set up. We recommend one early morning watering (before 10am) and an early evening watering (after 6pm) provided it has not rained that day.

In Colorado, approximately 80 percent of our water supplies come from melting snowpack. And, the current snowpack level is following the same pattern as the 2002 drought leaving our reservoir storage amounts at well below normal levels. The current level is insufficient to provide normal water supplies to urban and rural areas. Consequently, even with a few large spring snowstorms or rain, it is unlikely regional water supplies will recover to average conditions.

Time to pull up that lawn and put in a garden that will not only save hundreds of gallons of water, but also produce great tasting and fresh-as-can-be vegetables for your family!
